Heather Fisher

In July 2023, we welcomed Heather Fisher as our new Laboratory Manager for the UW–Madison Cryo-EM Research Center (CEMRC) and the Midwest Center for Cryo-Electron Tomography (MCCET). She was first introduced to cryo-EM as an undergraduate student at Brigham Young University where she was part of the Phage Hunter program, a national collaboration focused on isolating and characterizing novel bacteriophage infecting Mycobacterium smegmatis. Since graduating, she has worked in industry on projects spanning micro, molecular, and cellular biology first in agricultural disease treatment, then human pathogen molecular detection systems, and most recently as a stem cell biologist developing protocols for the differentiation and scale-up of various human cell types. She looks forward to bringing this experience to bear in managing and supporting the Cryo-EM Centers’ laboratories.
