The UW-Madison Cryo-Electron Microscopy Research Center is searching to fill three important positions: Operations and Technical Manager, Computer Scientist/Systems Administrator, and Assistant Scientist.
Operations and Technical Manager
The Cryo-EM Research Center in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, seeks to hire an experienced scientist as the Operations and Technical Manager. The Center will house a Titan Krios and a Talos Arctica (both instruments equipped with the Falcon III detector, the Gatan Bioquantum K3 energy filter-detector combination, and Volta phase plate system); a Talos 120 kV TEM; and an Aquilos cryo-Dual Beam system. A cryo-CLEM microscope for correlative microscopy pipelines will be available. Ancillary specimen preparation equipment is in place.
The Operations and Technical Manager will report directly to the Cryo-EM Research Center Director and will be responsible for overseeing all operations and technical support.

Computer Scientist/Systems Administrator
The Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) Research Center in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, seeks to hire an assistant, associate, or senior scientist as a computer scientist/system administrator.
As a key member of the Cryo-EM Research Center, the primary responsibilities of the Computer Scientist/System Administrator are to identify Cryo-EM computational/imaging related research problems, provide computational expertise in experimental design and provide computational support for the Cryo-EM Research Center’s activities. Working with the Center Director and staff, the Computer Scientist/System Administrator develops and uses existing software, pipelines, and database systems to analyze and manage Cryo-EM structural data.

Assistant Scientist
The UW-Madison Cryo-EM initiative is a cross-campus effort to provide modern cryo-electron microscopy capabilities to UW-Madison bioscience researchers. Current equipment includes a Tecnai TF-30 with a Gatan K2 Summit direct detector, a Tecnai T12 with a Gatan OneView CMOS detector, Vitrobot plunge-freezer, RMC HP 010 high-pressure freezer, a cryo-ultramicrotome, and a Leica EM ACE600 Carbon-Coating Device. A 300 kV Titan Krios, 200 kV Talos Arctica, 120 kV Talos L120C, and an Aquilos cryo-FIB-SEM will be added in the coming months. New spaces are being renovated to house the microscopes, supporting equipment, computational workspace, and workspace for the new cryo-EM Scientist.
